Stages of the Formation Process

All stages of the formation process for the Kansas City Province are followed collaboratively and concurrently with the Cincinnati Province.

Initial Formation is located at Gaspar House in Chicago.
An individual requests to be a candidate for the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.
Candidates attend St. Xavier University, Chicago.
College graduate candidates have individualized programs prepared in collaboration with the Formation Team and the candidate.
Focus of this time is on candidate's spiritual, emotional, and academic growth, to meet community members, and become acquainted with the history and spirituality of the Precious Blood.

Candidate immerses himself into Precious Blood Spirituality, the charisms of the Community and the life of St. Gaspar, Our Founder.
The program involves two summers that focuses on learning community history, as well as a second summer that includes study of the community, and sharing and reflecting on the candidates experiences.
The first summer is followed by a nine month Community Life Internship focusing on experiencing community, becoming acquainted with members and their ministries, and to experience community life as a Missionary of the Precious Blood.

Candidate finalizes decision as to vocational choice.
Candidate begins preparation for ministry at the Advanced Formation House in Chicago.
Prior to ordination, a priesthood candidate completes the requirements of the Master of Divinity Degree as outlined by the US Conference of Bishops and Catholic Theological Union, Chicago.
A brotherhood candidate pursues a specifically designed training program for his intended area of ministerial service of the Society.
Generally upon the conclusion of the third year of advanced formation, candidate makes a permanent commitment to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood known as "definitive incorporation." Upon incorporation a candidate becomes a member of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.
Upon completion of academic and pastoral requirements, those preparing for priesthood are ordained. Members who have chosen to be brothers in the Missionaries begin their ministry.
